JOY BEVERLEY

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Tue Sep 01, 2015 9:54 pm

Sad to hear the news that Joy Beverley of the Beverley Sisters has died at the age of 91. The trio appeared regularly on TV variety shows and their act gave a lot of pleasure over several decades. Joy was married for Thirty Six years to the great footballer Billy Wright until his death in 1994.

Sad news :( .......The Beverley Sisters were very popular and were all over our tv screens during the 50's 60's and even into the 70's ...........but nowadays younger people wouldn't have a clue who there are ...............Joy's two younger twin sisters are still alive aged 88 :) ..............RIP Joy Beverley :(

91 is a great age, I quite liked The Beverley Sisters although they could be very twee at times.
Rest in peace Joy.

The Beverley Sisters never meant anything to me but perhaps I'm not quite old enough. To be honest, I thought some of them already were dead. The internet states that they were all born on 5 May - yes, even Joy, three years before the twins but on the same day of the year! Seems a bit fishy to me and more like a contrivance to emphasise that they're all sisters. But then coincidences do happen in life.

Jon it could be true, Jackie Trent shared the same birthday with her brother but they were not twins, however I always thought The Beverley Sisters were triplets as they all wore the same outfits which I thought was rather creepy when they got older.

Yes, it has always been documented that that they shared the same Birthday.
One would have thought that off stage they would have each wanted to choose their own stryle of clothing, but this obviously wasn't so, and there clothes at times were perhaps a little bit over the top.  but they were popular with audiences.
We saw them in the Nineties with some other of those older entertainers who were regulars on our TVs and had become redundant due to the loss of weekend variety shows. The Bev's were the final act and we remember them sitting on the edge of the stage with their legs dangling over and singing all their best known songs.
