We were out for most of the day yesterday but listened today to Eric Hall' prog. He played Matt's..."Time After Time" and then with a short conversation with Don Black who wrote the song for the movie ..Ben, Don Black spoke of his association with Michael Jackson when he was living in Los Angeles. He went on to say from well known stars and celebrities from the past, how often it has proved that to be famous and altogether happy is not easy.
Don Black then spoke of Streisand but said that Matt Monro was way up there with the best of them.
Then Eric played Michael Jackson's version of "SMILE." Not easy when you listen to this. :(

I do not remember ever hearing Michael Jackson sing "Smile"-it is quite difficult to imagine it.

Talking of Elizabeth Taylor-[on another thread]---I have not heard any mention of her, regarding Michael Jackson-I was always under the impression that they were very close, so her silence seems very strange.

Yes, it's quite surprising, it's on Youtube although just with stills, nd we have a tape cassette " Ain't No Sunshine " of him singing " Too Young " and "All The Things You Are" . He was very young then .

We did see a mention and a picture of Michael Jackson with Elizabet Taylor.
She was apparently coming over here to see his show in London.

I read that Elizabeth Taylor collapsed when she heard the news.

Well she didn't look none too steady on her feet on the clip we saw of her, and that was before any report of Michael Jacksons death.

I only buy a paper once a week, on a Thursday, so I miss out on a lot of news--but sometimes that can be good !!

I still have not read my Daily Mail from last Thursday--just had no time yet !!

I was only thinking earlier on that I hadn't heard Elizabeth Taylor mentioned.

Hi Marian

I read that before Elizabeth Taylor collapsed, she screamed and screamed when told of Michael's death. They were such good pals. Liza Minnelli was also interviewed in Europe while on tour. Apparently it was on a Larry King program.

I heard on the TV news that Dame Elizabeth was at the hospital, soon after MJ was taken there................wether it was for news of MJ, or the fact she needed treatment after collapsing, I don't know  :)

Michael Jackson was big pal of Mark Lester (Oliver). When they met up in London MJ alway's had FISH AND CHIPS to eat ...................that's probably why his stomach was empty over there in America (no fish and chips) :)

She was quoted in a long message in DAILY EXPRESS a few days ago.

As I mentioned earlier, I only buy a paper on a Thursday-the day I do my shopping--so if does not appear on the TV news, or Teletext--then I do not know about it. !!

Did anyone else watch the Michael Jackson Memorial concert--I put on Sky news just after 6, although I thought the concert was on at midnight--well, it was-but US time--so I missed the beginning--but I became mesmerised by it, and surprisingly found some parts incredibly moving--Stevie Wonder singing "Never dreamed you'd leave in summer" was magic---Jermaine Jackson singing "Smile"--a song that I do not normally like, but it was a truly beautiful performance-- Usher with "Gone too soon"---the whole family on stage at the end singing "We are the world" and "Heal the World", and Michael's daughter managing at the end to say how much she loved her dad. I could not believe when it was over and I looked at the clock, it was 9.00 !!

It certainly was a magnificent tribute , from his family and friends for Michael. He could not have wished for more.

I watched most of it too. A fitting tribute to a great musical icon.
I was also moved by little Shaheen's performance. What a moment for a young boy to appear at such an occasion as this.
He received a standing ovation too. Well done Shaheen, you did us and yourself proud. :D
