Hi John

I love cinema, really love film, but I am now finding myself turning off movies I watch at home if i think they are rubbish!:)
"Life is too short to waste on a bad movie" - is my mantra now.

Too true Gray, but quite often you keep watching in the hope that it will get better, but so often it never does! :? :?

You're both right Gray & Marian. I would rather rewatch an old classic than sit through a bad new movie. One Elizabeth Taylor movie that "got away" was Ash Wednesday. Has anyone here seen it and is it worth hunting for?

Talking of Elizabeth Taylor---and I know this is the wrong thread--I have not heard any mention of her, regarding Michael Jackson-I was always under the impression that they were very close, so her silence seems very strange. I am going to put this in the correct thread now-sorry !!1

You're right Marian. We continued watching the film hoping it would improve. Occasionally though Gray, we can tell in the first 10 minutes if it's going to be any good or not.
Watched an old film with Jack Warner last night which was quite good.

What was the film called john ??

I watched the DVD - ON THE AVENUE today, made in 1937 and starring dick Powell, Madeleine Carroll (who was born in the Midlands- and who's sister died during the blitz), and Alice Faye. I usually love these old B&W movies, but this one had virtually no story line, and was quite corny (5 out of 10) :)

Yes, it was Mrs Thursday, Robert. She was the grand age of 103 when she died as well, and I believe she was working well into her nineties. Also in The Huggett fimls again with Jack Warner and Petula Clark. 8)

Watched "A Cry From The Streets" last night with Max Bygraves and Barbara Murray, another really good film. Max wasn't a bad actor, really, never seen him in a film before.

John

I may be telling you something you already know, but that film was directed by Lewis Gilbert, who went on to direct The Spy Who Loved Me (and other Bond movies)
