Richard Crooks was an American Tenor Marian, beautiful voice, he sang mainly opera and operatic arias, many of Franz Lehars songs.

Lena/Harry

I was interested to see you mention Stuart Burrows. Would that be the classical tenor of the same name? If so, he is Welsh. Believe it or not, I went to school with someone whose mother was a singer and was friendly with Stuart Burrows and he was at their house on a couple of occasions when I was there. Nice friendly bloke, though he must be getting on a bit now. He did have a series on BBC2, back in the 80s I think, singing operatic and lighter stuff such as from operettas, musicals etc. In an interview he once gave he said that many people have the idea that Wales is a very musical country but that in his experience, having travelled all around the world, "the truth is, Wales is no more musical than any other country"!

Yes, that's the same singer Jon,, born in Wales in 1933 and still alive and well as far as we know.
He had a series on TV in the Eighties, a lovely voice, and of course Wales has always been referred to as The Land O Song, possibly due to having Male Voice Choirs in practically every part of the country, and so many successful singers. :) :) but yes, all countries are musical.

Talking of Welsh singers, George and I used to love Ivor Emmanual--he had a lovely programme on Sundays about teatime--I think it was called "Land of song", and he would sing Welsh songs--plus some English songs-but in Welsh. I cannot remember a specifis song that he sang, but I know it was alweays am enjoyable half hour.

I really like Shirley Bassey singing "Thank you for the Years" from John's recent compilation.
Many thanks for that John. :D
