Another big favourite of George --and mine too --was "THE BISHOPS WIFE" with David Niven, Cary Grant-as an angel !--and the lovely actress Loretta Young--we watched this film so many times.

They remade this film , with the title of "The Preacher's Wife" with Whitney Houston-but when it came on TV, I could only watch the first 5 minutes--there was just no comparison with the original.

Yes, I agree Marian, the remakes are never as good as the originals.

I love the old Walt Disney features
ABSOLUTELY LOVE both Fantansia's
Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs
Cinderella

The quality of the artwork and the music was terrific

In the non-cartoon movies I think I saw Mary Poppins 27 times

All those Disney films you mentioned are great, Pam. Two more Disney films I like are "Pollyanna" with Jane Wyman and Hayley Mills and "The Three Lives Of Thomasina" with Parick McGoohan. :D

We love the Disney movies too. Have all the classic animated ones. Can't tell you how many times we have watched JUNGLE BOOK. It was our son's favourite.
MAKE MINE MUSIC was a particular favourite with popular songs to classical music featuring Benny Goodman, Dinah Shore, The Andrew Sisters Nelson Eddy.
It also reminds us that we have a recording of David Hughes who had a radio programme back in the Fifties titled "Make Mine Music" and he sang this at the beginning and end of his shows each week. :)

In my opinion, the best two Disney animation films are the brilliant JUNGLE BOOK and a more recently from the 90's THE LION KING :) :)

There are two Busby Berkeley box sets available (but both are region 1) - the first box contains two or three of the Golddiggers films - in Golddiggers of 1933 Ginger Rogers appears, dressed in large coins.............. and singing in "pig latin"..........brilliant :) :)

The BROADWAY MELODY of 1936 is another wonderful B&W movie musical, in which Ellie makes her first major film appearance, alongside Robert Taylor and a cast of many :) ..................the highlight has to be the 10 minute finale song -Broadway Rythm. The song starts off with Frances Langford, then passes to Buddy and Vilma Ebsen, then onto June Knight and Nick Long Junior who do a dance masterclass, then the sublime Ellie comes tapping onto the scene to finish off this absolutely amazing song :D :D

"FIDDLER ON THE ROOF" Topol must have been born to play Tevye---everything about the film is wonderful--the setting--the acting, the music, the story--some sad moments--some funny moments. Just perfect.

Another classic that I remember seeing as a child. "HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY." The story set in Wales, of a mining family, but seen through the eyes of the youngest son. A great movie. :)

"How green was my valley" was a really good book, too.
