Favourite Films
Re: Favourite Films
Talking of books, have we had "Gone with the Wind" yet---I preferred the book to the film--but the film was great --a true classic.

I enjoyed "The Horse Whisperer" both book and film.

Re: Favourite Films
Also, "The Bridges of Madison County" I always felt Robert Redford should have been in this film too, but the leading man was Clint Eastwood. Another good perfomance by Meryl Streep though.

OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES, A lovely heartwarming story of a farming family with Edward G Robinson playing the unusual role of the gentle loving and hardworking Father in a small town.
My favourite child star Margaret O' Brien played the daughter in this sentimental movie.

Oh I loved Bridges of Madison County, Marian.
The scene in which Meryl Streep is in the car at the end, do you know the scene I am referring to? - oh gosh, i found it so upsetting.

Here is the first mention of Rogers and Hammersteins wonderful musical CAROUSEL (1956). This is my second favourite R&H movie, but (only just) behind my very favourite......................the R&H score is truly sublime, with glorious tunes
the film is so uplifting and so very sad too..................Gordon MaCrae and Shirley Jones were awesome lead characters. One of my favourite scenes is when Billy (Gordon MaCrae) is given the chance to come back down to earth to see his daughter (played by Susan Luckey)......such a wonderful and magical heartwarming moment, the whole movie is beautiful

I'm not quite sure Gray, was it after he went away for the last time?
It was such a sad ending. Very moving when he sent her his belongings too.

Marley and Me.
I watched it just after our cat had died, which made it even more upsetting at the end.)

Re: Favourite Films
Hi Marian
Yes, that is the scene in Bridges, were Streep has to make a decision one way or another, I thought this sequence was superbly shot , cut and played.

MRS MINIVER, with Greer Garson, Walter Pdgeon and Teresa Wrught. Directed by William Wyler.
An English middle class family during the blitz, living on the outskirts of London,.
This film was said to have been so taken to heart that it added encouragement for America to join our cause.
A lovely movie, and winning Oscars for the film and both actresses.
