MONRO RARITIES SET FOR RELEASE

More than 150 unreleased songs by the late crooner MATT MONRO have been discovered in London studio Abbey Road. The FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE singer's rarities, many produced by BEATLES' knob-twiddler GEORGE MARTIN, have been compiled into 50-track CD THE RARE MONRO by Monro's daughter MICHELE. She says, "Daddy would go into the studio and record a song five or six times, in different ways, to provide a choice for what should be released. "I assumed the ones that weren't chosen had been lost for ever but they'd been secreted in the vaults at Abbey Road for 30 to 40 years." Monro died in 1985 aged 54.

Each time Matt Monro went into the studio with George Martin he would lay down five or six recordings. Those were then listened back to and a song was chosen that they thought would be the next hit. But what about the discarded songs? Well they're here!

This 2CD album contains many previously unreleased tracks, and some which were just released on vinyl. Also included, a fine array of rare and unusual photographs and sleeve notes written by Matt's daughter, Michele.

Michele and everyone, I just received my "Rare Monro" together with "Heart of a Man" and I have just downloaded them to my Ipod. I am away on holiday in a couple of weeks and look forward to hearing Matt's rendition of these songs ( although I will probably have a sneak preview before I go :D ).

Hi--well done Edgar--another Ipod user!! I was beginning to think I was an endangered species on this forum.  Wonder if they are now letting you take Ipods etc on to the plane---boring old journey without, that's for sure.

Hope you have a good time in New England--go to Martha's Vineyard and Cohassett if you can--wonderful places.

Do not forget to come back in time for the Fan Club Meet-up

Hi Marian. Yes, I will be able to take my Ipod on board, one of the few things you can take! I don't think we'll be visiting those places, although my geography of that area is not good. Going from New York to Quebec via Boston, Halifax, Sydney etc. Looking forward to it very much. Oh.' we'll be back for the Meet, and we're off again to a concert in Cologne three days after that! :D

Well, I suppose that, technically it's not actually what we would call New England, but we will still see all the beautiful trees (I hope), and hopefully we will get good weather, like it is here this morning, sunny but with a nip of autumn in the air!

No Mariana, you are not the only ipod user on here! I love mine, and nver go far without it. I like the fact that I don't have to buy whole albums, and that I can mix my music up as much as I like. I only have two problems:

1) Choosing tracks from over 4,000 on my hard drive to fit on my ipod nana - it can hold 300 at a push!

2) Finding some more obscure artists - although it amazes me that I can download Gracy Fields singing 'the biggest aspidistra in the world', but not 'Shooting High' or 'Taking a chance on love' by Eydie Gorme. I think I have ranted on here before about the same subject, and some kind user did offer to see what Eydie Gorme tracks they might be able to put on CD for me, but not heard back from them since .....

I did email Apple Inc about the lack of Eydie Gorme but got a very stilited, computer generated response about copyright laws, contractual obligations, legal procedures etc etc all making it impossible for them to comment on the subject of artistes presence or absence nor was it the policy of Apple Inc to comment on potential artistes appearance on the site, nor was it their policy to speculate on those they are currently negotiating with or wish to negotiate with in the near future ....

Hi Mike---only one answer--get another Ipod--mine will hold up to 10.000 tunes. I started with an Ipod mini, to get used to how it worked, then I bought the one I have now. Try Ebay--they have some bargains on there--that is where I bought both mine--they are great-I have external speakers so that I do not have to use headphones.

Hi Edgar--I guess that did sound a bit strange---Of course I wear headphones while I am travelling

Its just that I listen to it at home nearly all the time, the external speakers are obviously more convenient--and comfortable.

I should have made that clear---silly me

Yes, " The Rare Monro " is a double treasure of great songs Mike, but so too is the other recent CD " Heart Of A Man" that is also a must have for Matt's fans. :) :)
