A lovely song-a beautiful artiste-I have a pal in NYNY who knows Carol and sent me Carole's Duke Ellington album a few years ago.
Excellent stuff!
Best Wishes.

Just listenerd to Barbra Streisand on EP show-lovely song--reminds me a little of a classical piece, but not sure which one.
Paul O Grady also played a new track from the album--"Where do you start" --near the end of the show-1 hour 40 minutes in approx.

Re: Barbra Streisand
Where Do You Start is a very meaningful song.
I have the Michael Feinstein version but I expect Barbra to outsing him.
Where do you start?
How do you separate the present from the past?
How do you deal with all the things you thought would last?
That didn't last
With bits of memories scattered here and there
I looked around and don't know where to start
Which books are yours?
Which tapes and dreams belong to you and which are mine?
Our lives are tangled like the branches of a vine that intertwined.
So many habits that we'll have to break
And yesterday's we'll have to take apart
One day there'll be a song or something in the air again
To catch me by surprise and you'll be there again
A moment in what might have been
Where do you start?
Do you allow yourself a little time to cry?
Or do you close your eyes and kiss it all goodbye?
I guess you try
And though I don't know where and don't know when
I'll find myself in love again
I promise there will always be a little place no one will see
A tiny part within my heart, that stays in love with you

I have quite a few Michael Feinstein cds--but I do not recall him singing that song-I will double check on his cds, when I get time.
Beautiful lyrics again on that song.

Re: Barbra Streisand
A beautiful song by Alan&Marilyn Bergman on Tony's 'THE ART OF ROMANCE'album.

Re: Barbra Streisand
The link to all these versions of Where Do You Start is its arranger and music composer, Johnny Mandel. When Mandel arranges an album, he usually brings along one or several of his own songs for the artist to sing. I believe that the Feinstein version, for Isn't It Romantic in '88, was the first to be recorded, followed by Shirley Horn, Tony Bennett, and now Barbra Streisand - all Mandel arranging projects. He's one of America's last - but still busy - grand old arrangers (along with Ralph Carmichael).
And for those like myself who are way late in buying Tony Bennett's Art of Romance CD, it's recently been reissued, and at a much lower price than it's original Sony release. But as for the Streisand release, I have to admit that I haven't owned an album of hers since the vinyl days. Living in the U.S. I'm, unfortunately, forced to hear of all her egomaniacal/eccentric ways. For example, she's always saying that she never listens to music, because she hears too much music while recording (never mind the fact that she releases an album only about once every ten years). And she believes in nothing besides CNN playing all day on her TV. I guess I'm greatly influenced by (in my opinion) her lack of passion for music, so that often deters me from buying her CDs. She mostly turns to albums and concerts when she needs money (as she reportedly is worth far more in assets than actual cash). But, oh well . . I look forward to comments here about the new CD, and maybe I'll find reason to get enthused again about Babs.

Re: Barbra Streisand
Welcome to this forum Gloria--and 2 very interesting posts from you, on JJ and now Barbra Streisand--2 of my favoutrite singers-both in my top 5 list.
I love listening to Barbra-i have all her cds and dvds, plus most Of JJ's recordings.
The song "Isn't it romantic" was recorded by Johnny Mathis a few years back, and was actually the title of the CD.
Have you heard the recording of Michal Feinstein , singing "Wasn't it romantic"--which he sings on it's own, then together with "Isn't it romantic"--ingenious how the songs fit together-I never tire of listening to it. "Wasn't it romantic" was actually written by someone else, but you would never guess it.
"Oh , wasn't it romantic--our story book in song--
You, fragile as a snowflake--I, resolute and strong"
Unusual words--slightly dated I guess--but very sweet.
I also have recordings of this song by Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Rod Stewart, and Steve Tyrell---I like them all.

Good new Marian
Barbara's interview with the BBC, is with your favourite Johathan Ross

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: Barbra Streisand
Hi Robert-yes, I already knew that--there are not many people who would induce me to listen to JR--but obviously Barbra Streisand is one.

Re: Barbra Streisand
Hi Mariana, and thank you for your kind welcome. Streisand and Feinstein are two artists I want to start listening to again soon (no matter how looney I may view Streisand the person). I can remember playing a lot of Barbra's old vinyl records, like No More Tears, Superman, Wet, The Main Event, Memories, and then I owned a few others on cassette. But I started to lose focus on a lot of the old singers once CDs became the norm, which I shouldn't have, since those old titles are pretty inexpensive to replace on CD today.
You are right as to how wonderful Feinstein's medley of Isn't It Romantic/Wasn't It Romantic is. I only own that CD and Pure Gershwin, and I often found myself wondering whether or not I'd enjoy hearing medleys on every one of his albums. For many fans, that's a make or break issue in buying Feinstein CDs, as some would rather hear an album of full songs. But when you think about it further, he covers so many great old composers that you don't heard a lot of elsewhere, so there's still much worthwhile to be found in them. Needless to say, I have a very long Wish List of music I need to catch up with.

Re: Barbra Streisand
Hi again Gloria--just an addition to any Michael Feinstein Collection---"The MGM album"---one of my favourite albums--and definately my fave Feinstein recording.
I am so pleased you know the "Wasn't it romantic" version-I do not know of anyone else who has heard this.

Re: Barbra Streisand
Jonathan Ross is to interview Barbra Streisand for a special episode of his BBC One chat show.
An entire show - branded Friday Night With Streisand and Ross - will be devoted the singer and actress.
As well as discussing her career, the star will also perform some of her classic hits and material from her new album, Love Is The Answer.
The programme will be broadcast on 2 October. Streisand's new studio album, is released in the UK on 28 September.
A spokeswoman for Streisand said the BBC One show would be the star's first studio interview in the UK since she spoke with Des O'Connor in the 1980s.
