I enjoyed the programme. But I did not like the cuts on You're Gonna Hear From Me. That was not necessary.

They didn't play hits like Born Free, because this is a 'cabaret' series, and those songs don't fit with that theme. But then I don't know why they played the Woolies jingle or Portrait of My Love. I would have preferred just cabaret style songs, like You're Sensational and When Joanna Loved Me.

Excellent considering he had to try and select from a wealth of material and only THIRTY MINUTES airtime-Malcolm Vaughan a week on Friday! :D

Another nice programme with Desmond.. this week with Anne Shelton .
Anne was just Twelve years old when she first sang "Begin The Beguine" with Ambrose and his Orchestra. She thought this band was the best and the number 1 band at that time.
Then made her own many recordings including "Lay Down Your Arms" and "Lillie Marlene."
She met Bing Crosby at the Queensbury club and sang songs like Easter Parade, and performed several shows with Glenn Miller and his Orchestra and at the parting he gave her a present of a gold bracelet which she treasured .
She spent a year in America, singing at "The Sands Hote" and "The Copacabana."
Desmond finished the show with Two of Annes best recordings of "You'll Never Know " and "I'll Be Seeing You." :) :)

Anne Shelton was a lovely lady too Sandra, and fame didn't change her.
That's was made her and Vera Lynn so special to many. :) :)

There was a relation on Anne Shelton's on the Antique Roadshow recently with an item of jewellery that had belonged to Anne and a photograph of Anne wearing it. It was interesting to hear her talking about Anne and her career. She said she would keep the jewellery in the family.
:D :D

Yes it was her niece Kelly Richards. She is a friend of a cousin of my Mums.
She was due to put on a tribute show in memory of Anne Shelton a few months ago at Eastbourne.
Haven't heard how it went yet. :)

Another enjoyable programme with Malcolm Vaughan, and a nice beginning with his recording of "Where Or When" one of my favourite songs.
He certainly started his varied career early and he was voice trained and was quite operatic compared to most of those crooners around in the Fifties.
He was certainly a very good singer and few other male vocaliste sang "The Wedding" that was recorded by Julie Rogers.
A nice version of "If You Were The Only Girl In The World". and Malcolm now suffering with Dementia, it seemed a rather sad ending to the programme with his recording of "Look For The Silver Lining."

Yes another good programme.I thought Malcolm Vaughan had more 'hits' than 'St.Therese of the Roses' though.
Just looked him up and his other 'biggies' were 'My Special Angel' and 'More Than Ever'.
As you say Lena and Harry a sad ending :(

P.S. Recorded a cassette for my Mum on last weeks Anne Shelton, she has phoned to say that she has put it in her video machine by mistake and can't get it out-Whoops hope we can!!

Looking forward to Vera Lynn next Friday, Desmond mentioned on Tuesday that it was a cabaret show.
By the way, did anyone listen to Desmond on Tuesday evening ??
It was a specially nice programme with all Hoagy Carmichal's music, and he played Matt singing... "One Morning In May" :) :)
