Matt Monro on AM740 Toronto
Matt Monro on AM740 Toronto
At 3:00 am on Saturday morning I heard My Kind Of Girl played on AM740 radio station from Toronto, Ontario. This is cause for celebration because it's the first time I've heard Matt Monro played on radio in North America in many years. He may be played on satellite radio, but I don't subscribe to that.
AM740 Prime Time Radio plays great music; it's as if Lena and Harry programmed it! On clear evenings, I can hear it in Washington. I went to their website (am740.ca) and they are compiling a top 100 listeners favourite song list. So I submitted five of Matt Monro most famous songs. Take a moment to submit five Matt Monro songs. Thanks!

Yes, I noticed there was no on-line listening option. It's a shame because the evening programmes are quite nice. The other evening they devoted a hour to Benny Goodman's recordings from the 1960s and featured many different female vocalists---some not available on commercial recordings.
I have heard them play Portrait Of My Love by Steve Lawrence twice. My apologies to the Steve Lawrence fans, but the only person who should sing Portrait Of My Love is Matt Monro. Fortunately during one of the plays, the signal for the station faded out, so I couldn't hear Steve Lawrence singing this beautiful song with no emotion.
The station is sponsoring two October concerts (in Toronto and Hamilton) with one of Lena and Harry's favourites, Al Martino. It's great to hear he's still performing.

Just wanted to let you know that you can know now listen to AM 740 Toronto online 24 hours a day. So if you want an alternative to GMMY radio or Radio 2 or your ipod shuffle or your favourite CDs, you might want to try AM 740. They play a bit too much 1950s rockabilly and Buble for my tastes, but I do get to hear many Anne Murray songs. They need to play more Matt Monro! The specialty programmes in the evenings are quite nice. But those would occur in the middle of the night for you, so it might be difficult to listen to them.
