Here's - She Wears My Ring, Jeff :) I think he sounds a bit like Engelbert Humperdinck :)

I often remember everyone's favourite songs, much more than their name. I think you included it in Marian's favourite artist/song game. I believe I've heard I'd Love You To Want Me on Radio 2, but not often. It's bizarre to think that Radio 1 played it at one time. :o

I still listen Jo Whiley on Radio on weekends. I like to keep current with the songs on the charts. I usually like many of them and find out about new artists.

Radio 1 played these type of songs Jeff, as these type of songs were the hit songs of the 1970's :) :)

I love the scene this song paints. The chords are nice and interesting. Some current standards singer should record this song, instead of the same old songs.

Thanks for the link. I can't say I'm impressed, Jon. The song and his style sound like Engelbert, but lack a certain magic.

Still shocking to me.

Twenty years from now, I'll be surprised that Radio 1 ever played Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas.

Speaking of the BEP, wasn't it absolutely fabulous they kept Leona Lewis off the top of the singles chart? :D :o :!: I've never liked them until this latest album. I don't like anything Leona Lewis sings. Now if Robbie could prevent her from getting the #1 album this week.

Hi Paul

I agree about the similarity between Solomon King and Englebert; song's OK but it's the only one I've ever heard, and possibly the last, of his.

I've recently started listening to lots of familiar songs from the 60s but whose title and artists I can never identify when asked: there are simply loads of such songs, and it frustrates me when I'm not able to recognise them even though I know I've heard them scores of times before, in shops, on TV etc. I was rather pleased with myself on Monday when I was able to answer three questions on 60s No. 1s on University Challenge - so the research is paying off!

It's also interesting to consider how looking up details of one song can reveal links to other songs and artists that one would never have first realised. For example, on researching the song "Groovin'" by The Young Rascals, I discovered that they originally recorded and wrote "How Can I Be Sure", the David Cassidy song, in 1967. Also, the song "Kites" (a Top Ten UK hit in 1967) was by Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, the group Elton John originally performed in. I'm sure there are many more gems to discover...

We seem to have gone off the original subject here, so I will try and bring it back--

I have lots of these forgotten songs in my Johnny Mathis collection---but I will just pick 2 of my favourites that have never as far as I know been played on the radio--

"Nobody knows"

"In return ".

Can't say I recognise those songs from JM's back catalogue, Marian. Which album are they from?

A real lost song that was popular in the early 50s (when I was courting my present wife)
GEORGIE SHAW - "Till We Two Are One" on Decca

Also - in the 50s (same period) - dick LEE - "Eternally" & "Infatuation"
Henry H Puccinelli

Haven't listened to those JM albums for ages, Marian; must catch up with them.

I'm a recent convert to Dana's "All Kinds of Everything", which is a much better song than I imagined it was; perhaps this was something to do with the Eurovision tag. Very enjoyable.
