A little bit more about James Last, Emma Bunton, the Tornedos, and the Shadows:
James Last -- I forgot that he wrote one of the most cheerful songs ever: Happy Heart. I remember when this was popular by Andy Williams. I recently performed this song and it's just the most joyful song. It also has a great bass line. And the intro with the simple triads is genius.
Emma Bunton -- Marian, you really need to have Free Me and Maybe from Emma's last album on your ipod. Free Me could have been the theme to a 1960s James Bond film and Maybe is a quick and happy bossa nova. She released these a few years ago, but I still regularly listen to them. I can't wait for her new material to come out!
Tornedos -- Robert, I said that Telstar reminded me of More, but I really don't think it's a speeded-up version of More. The melody is slightly different.
Shadows -- I checked my book of American top 40 hits. The Shadows didn't have any top 40 hits in the US. I wonder why? They had many hits and even some number 1s in the UK. I have a recording of Apache, but it's by someone else. I will have to purchase a compilation of the Shadows when I'm in the UK next.
What I'm listening to now: Since it's primary election day here, I'm trying to listen to all American artists, which is a real struggle for me. So I'm listening to the best of Herb Alpert --- some songs with the Tijuana Brass and some of his solo hits. My favourites are Whipped Cream, A Taste of Honey, Lollipops and Roses, Tijuana Taxi, What Now My Love, So What's New, Casino Royale, This Guy's In Love With You, and Route 101.

Hi Paul-I do have a few Emma Bunton tracks on my ipod, including the ones you mentioned--I do quite like her, I have to say. It was just at the time she was singing that song "What took you so long"--I think it was. I also love Geri Halliwell, singing "Lift Me up"--and I actually quite liked some of the Spice Girls tracks.
The Shadows have been very popular over here--both with Cliff and without him--they do have several compilations about.
Herb Alpert is reasonably well known over here--especially "This guys in love with you"--but I prefer Sergio Mendes, and I also really like Astrud Gilberto, but I guess these are not classed as "American ".

Hi All,
At the moment we are listening to the new CD by Charlie Landsborough.
It's called "Heart and soul" and contains some of Charlie's own songs plus a few lovely cover versions too.
"Blowin' in the wind" and "Song of Bernadette" are wonderful.
If you haven't heard Charlie's music before, I think that you will love this CD as it is mainly made up of inspirational songs with a nice gospel feel to the music.
Marian - Emma Bunton will be appearing in "Strictly Come dancing" this Autumn. It should be a good one I think!

I also like Emma Bunton - I have the album she made which features "Free Me" and other tracks, and it's enjoyable - quite summery music.
Herb Alpert - was he the one who wrote the music for the James Bond film "Casino Royale" with David Niven, or was that Burt Bacharach? I often mix them up for some reason.

I just read that that Spoony, the Week-end Breakfast host on BBC Radio 1, will be on Strictly Come Dancing.
Sadly this is his last week-end on Radio 1. I guess management thinks he's too old for Radio 1. He'll be 40 next year. If you like soul, r & b, and hiphop music, be sure to listen to his final two shows this week-end. He'll be playing all his favourites. I'll be "listening again" next week. I think he's an excellent DJ and I'll miss listening to him. I'm hoping he'll move over to Radio 2 and present a programme of classic soul and today's R & B music. That seems to be missing from Radio 2 and Spoony would be perfect to present it.

Hello diane. We have talked about James Morrison before. Paul doesn't like his voice diane. I informed the forum a couple of weeks ago that James Morrisons voice is as "breathless" as it sounds because he had a bad bout of whooping cough as a child.
