X-FACTOR 2006
Hi Hilary---do you really think it is "guts" that make them stand up and sing , in front of the judges---or a kind of vanity that they think they are good enough.??
Maybe I am being unkind, because some of them do seem really nervous---but funnily enough , it seems that the worst the singer is--the less nervous they are!!!

Hi Hilary and Marian, We missed it this week but will try to catch next week.
Well we're not altogether sure if it's nerves or guts that gets them to audition and stand in front of that panel but there's one thing we're certain of, it isn't talent. Won't their family or friends tell them the bad news??

Hi Marian, Lena and Harry,
I think that some of the singers taking part wouldn't listen to anything that their family and friends said to them as they are probably thinking about taking part in the show because THEY think that they can make it to the top of the charts!
Some of the singers want fame for fame's sake and think that going on the TV will bring them what they want!
Some will achieve this but talent in the end will be the only thing that will keep them going through the years and a record deal of course.
This is probably why some singers only have one hit and then disappear, never to be heard of again, which in a way is very sad I think!

Hi all---another consideration, is that sometimes the family and friends of these singers actively encoourage them to think they are wonderful--so it is a rude awakening when Simon and the others slate them
That man last week who nearly went ballistic--his daughter may have had training , experience etc, but no way was she X-factor material.

X-FACTOR
Hello....Everyone.. I am a newbie to this lovely web-site, dedicated to my one and only favourite singer Matt Monro....
Makes me wonder why the contestants in the X-Factor show, do not quickly make an exit, when they see the Judges laughing at them ?

Hi Angela---nice to see you posting on the site, with your picture added too!
I wonder how they can carry on singing when the judges laugh at them--I'm sure that I would burst into tears
. But some of them seem to be oblivious at what is happening, and carry on regardless.
I thoght Saturday nights show was quite dismal-I do not remember any really bright sparks, who I thought had a glimmer of hope of doing well!!
Lets hope they buck up next week.
What amazes me, is that obviously, the judges can only see so many--they cannot possibly see 100.000--so I imagine the ones to go through have been vetted in some way---so just how bad are the ones who never get as far as the judges!!!! The mind boggles.

Well if they have had to watch 100,000 of these mostly brain dead contestants, can you understand why Simon Cowell either laughs or comes out with an instant NO!!! Rude he may be, and we know that the public TV licence paying viewers are not in his interest but aren't we already served up with enough rubbish.

X-FACTOR
Hello again....
I do know of someone that has recently entered the X-Factor, through an
Agent, and had only 30-seconds to perform, at a slected interview.
Unfortunately, he did not succeed in his attempt, shame really, but
he has enough bookings to carry on his singing.

Another very late posting to this thread and hello to Angela, if yo are still here!
1) X-Factor - its awful, BUT the auditions are compulsive, just to see how bad people are!!
2) Only a small percentage of people actually get to see Louis, Simon, & Sharon. You are seen if you are a) good enough or b) bad enough. I guess thats the only way they can screen 100,000 people or however many turn up at these auditions. But it does mean that the auditions are in reality a 'freak show'
3) I really do think that there is too much incentive for people to believe that anyone can become a star in show business these days! Everyone wants to be a celebrity, and parents should realise that this isn't going to work for everyone. I'm not saying don't have dreams (I always wanted to be an airline pilot!) but have them as an incentive to better yourself and not some pie in the sky notion!
4) Of course, some people do have talent - our very own Matt started his career singing in pubs. But the X-Factor isn't really about that I am afraid. None of the winners have gone on to have a chart topping career. Its really about lining Simon Cowells pocket through the production company that he owns, promoting the other judegs, and the text charges for the voting.
Thats why I'm not watching this year!

Well-heres an even later posting---I watched X factor tonight, but did not really know what to make of it---I suppose once they start singing with an orchestra they might sound diffferent--but I could not see a prospective STAR there. The young boy, called Sean, had an excellent voice, but I think he is too nervous to do well. Apart from that I do not think anyone stood out.
But that was an interesting point you made Mike, about only being "good enough" or "bad enough"-I had realised that logistically, the judges could not listen to 100.000 auditions, and I was wondering how bad were the ones that did not get an audition--but obviously the mediocre ones are the ones that fell by the wayside.
I have to smile when they come on and say-"I want to be the next Madonna" "I want to be famous" "I want to have a platinum selling album"--how long do they think it will last----where is Gareth Gates these
days?? Not to mention all the others that I cannot even remember their names--apart from Will Young. But I keep watching, and always will-as long as it keeps going !! Plus American Idol etc etc etc.
Luckily my phone will not allow me to vote--which is maddening at the time--but I am always glad afterwards.
Plus todays shows made my sister very happy, as helping Louis with the judging was her idol---- Kian from Westlife!!!

I was wondering that as well Robert! Maybe she's telephobic, like Beatties son Marvin was in those BT TV ads in the 80s
Will Young is indeed the only who has really made it big (reasonably) since these talent shows emerged. The people I like never make it all the way (I think it was Brenda in last years who got voted off whilst having a brilliant singing voice), and I just get angry at the audience booing the judges when they are giving their honest opinion. And its all so samey now - its all about pop. If someone came on with a voice like Matts or Bobby Darins, or Johnny Mathis, they would say 'yes you've got a great voice, but its not what we're looking for!' If a judge gets one of their talent to sing anything more than 10 years old then the other judges will always say 'its not you're fault but Louis/Sharon/Simon is choosing the wrong songs for you!'. Anyway - rant over!!
Isn't Kian the only eligible one left in Westlife, since Mark came out!? When I saw them in concert, I was sat next to a screaming Japanese woman, in her mid 30s (I think) who cried, screamed (in a good way, and not in anger!), and her sang her way all the way through the 'Westrife' (as she pronounced it) concert. Her mother remained seating with a very stately and 'we are not amused' look on her face. She didn't even look up when the 'flew over' on the aerial gantry!

We know what you mean Mike, a voice like Matt, Bobby Darin, Mathis, in the last series, one was voted off singing a sentimental ballad style, Brenda lost out.
Never thought we'd get hooked again after that, but for the past two weeks we've been welded to our seats and in deeper shock than the last series. OK!! the beeb scraping the barrel and desperate for ideas, it makes a programme.
Our words must be in unison all over the country, what's the matter with these sad hopefuls. The two lads in harmony were perhaps the best out of a pathetic bunch.
The young kid, so nervous
perhaps has a minute chance, if only.... (perhaps some of you may remember the Deana Durbin song) " Can't Help Singing" film with the same name, his should be Can't Help Crying.
One girl held a note so long, she'd have given Matt a run for his money on that, except that she couldn't sing.
Some one had to get a yes vote last night, a tough decision, we had ours.

Hi all-I watched Xtra Factor this morning, and had not realised last night that the Group "4th Base" had gone-this was their 3rd attempt--I thought they were one of the better groups.
I do not know too much about the "Westlife" boys--my sister is the fan.
And I am not sure why my phone will not allow me to vote-when I try, a voice says to me "This action is not permitted". I think it dates back to when I changed from BT to Toucan, and Toucan put a block on the premium numbers. Overall, I am glad, as it is very easy to get carried away and vote--and I am not very good at picking winners---so my money would have been wasted !!!
