Hi Lena and Harry---it was Jules Styne who wrote 2 of my favourite songs "Small World" from Gypsy, and "Time after Time", both beautifully sung by JM, but also a great version by our Matt, too of "Time after time"
2 really great songs.
And I have said before Helena has a lovely voice--she does did not look like a "Maria"

Ahh - 'Gypsy' - I've only seen the film version, but liked it very much. Some fantastic songs, by Rosalind Russell and Jack Klugman in the film of course. 'Everythings coming up roses', ' I have a dream', 'Mama get married', 'All I need now is a girl', 'Have an egg roll, Mr Goldstone', and my favourite is 'You'll never get away from me'. I DO have a funny annectdote about this which I may share with you all one day!!! But not yet! Gypsy was wonderful story with some tremendous highs and a few lows, and the songs really do reflect that

Every time I watch an Ellie DVD I feel very happy, but very sad at the same time, if you know what I mean

A question for L&H. Have you got the DVD/video of Frank Sinatras First 40 Years which was recorded at Ceasars Palace in 1979. The question I need to know is if the lady at the very very end of the credits, just before the video finishes, a lady appears with a male friend next to Mr Sinatra. She is wearing a beige suite, I think she looks like Ellie would have looked at about her age at that time (67). I am convinced it could be Ellie, but I need someone else's opinion, please.

Haven't seen this Dvd Robert, but it could have been her even though her name wasn't in the credits.
We have lots of his early years video's right through so we'll have a look and see if we have any with her in apart from The Three Entertainments
A Michael Bernal wrote that during the narration of That's Entertainment Sinatra summed it up about Eleanor Powell by saying. You can wait around and hope but I tell you, you'll never see the likes again.

Thanks for you reply L&H. I don't think Ellie ever appeared "live" on stage with Mr Sinatra at any time. The "First 40 Years" was a tribute evening for Franks first 40 years in showbiz, with many star guests attending. Ellie never appeared on the show or as you say in the end credits, but she could have been in the audience during the recording of the show. It maybe wasn't Ellie at the end, but I think it might have been.
I asked the same information on the IMDb Frank Sinatra message board, to no avail, as yet.
Frank Sinatra did appear as a band singer (with Tommy Dorsey) in his very first film, which was in an Ellie movie "Ship Ahoy".
What a great tribute Ellie and Fred Astaire were paid by the words of Frank Sinatra in the Thats Entertainment film, words which are absolutely true
