Re: Snow causing transport chaos
I work not that far from Basingstoke. Some of my colleagues took over 6 hours to get there from work last week when the snow fell. Others took 4 hours to get to Reading. My 15 minute journey took about 40 minutes so I considered myself fortunate. There are stil odd lumps of snow and ice on the ground near my house (Surrey-Hants borders) and the forecasters seem to think we will have more snow later this week. I hope not, but I bought 3 more bags of grit this afternoon just in case (I live on a bend on a hill that the council don't grit. There's a grit box but despite 7 calls this has not been refilled since February)
Please call me Chris, and see some of my photos at

We had the gritters sprinkling the pavements, but the roads here were like glass, so unless you're Torvill and Dean you can end up with cracked ribs or a broken leg

I didnot go ouit till every last piece of snow and ice vanished--and i think it was Friday.

Sounds as though we have to brace ourselves for more any time now.

I think Lori in Kansas may be experiencing the worst weather, we have friends there and they described it as "Frigid Kansas" at the moment. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

We know that the East coast seems to have been badly hit. Baltimore Washington. Philidelphia has really got it bad too and our friends there said the extra security going through customs at the airport after that scare was as harrowing as the turbulance.
Re: Snow causing transport chaos
I am still feeling too ill to go out today--but It seems to me it is actually a little milder today.

It has hardly stopped raining here either Marian for the past Two days, but it hasn't deterred people from shopping. Harry said Oxford Street was as busy as usual.

Re: Snow causing transport chaos
Hi Terence--yes feeling a little better--but still not venturing out.
The snow is not too bad here just now, although I know some parts of the country have been badly hit.
The forecast ahead though sounds ominous, and I fear more snow is on the way.
