In The Pipeline

Post by paul jh » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:45 pm

It was nice to read "In The Pipeline" in the October news. All these projects sound very exciting.

I would like to suggest the following projects for the future (perhaps 2009, since 2007 and 2008 are quite full!).

1. Different Takes of the Popular Hits: A few years ago, Capitol Records released compilation CDs of hits by famous artists, but different takes were included. I have the Nat King Cole CD and you can notice subtle differences between those takes and the version that was actually released. I would think EMI would still maintain different takes of Matt Monro recordings. I got this idea from the great enjoyment I'm getting with the different version of Walk Away on Heart Of The Man. He altered the melody every so slightly. I would love to hear the different takes on From Russia With Love, For All We Know, On Days Like These, and all the other greatest hits.

2. Song Book: I know that the lyric book was just released and there's a songbook with CD of a few of the hits. But I would like to see a sheet music collection of all the greatest hits and many of the standards Matt Monro has recorded. I know this could be expensive to produce, but I feel this could sell well, since these standards will live on forever. I would prefer to see the real Matt Monro arrangements, rather than the standard sheet music, but then the real bucks come in (with hiring transcriptors, etc.).

3. Even More Two on One: Please continue this project and reissue as many of the original LPs as possible. My only suggestion is to add a page to the CD booklet reprinting the original liner notes in a larger size. My eyes are still good, but it's getting harder to read the reproduction of the original notes. I attempted to read the notes for Here's To My Lady yesterday and it was tough! And there wasn't a magnifying glass handy. I would like the liner notes printed in the original graphic to see the neat design, but then also printed in a larger font.

P.S.: I like having the boxes in the News. My only suggestion would be to put the most recently added items at the top. I believe In The Pipeline and Cliff Richard are brand new items, but they appeared after Heart Of The Man. Thanks!

Yes Paul, I had to get the magnifying glass out to read the "Heres To My Lady" liner notes, and then it was a strain on the eyes

An album that HAS to be released on a 2 - 1 is "Blue and Sentimental" (Very Good)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Isn't "Blue and Sentimental " the album Michelle said, on "The Man With the Golden Voice", Matt hated the sound of his voice on? Or have I got that wrong?

Yes jon, you have got it wrong. Matt didn't like the sound of his voice when he recorded his first ever song in a small recording studio in Scotland "Polkadots and Moonbeams"
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(
