PLEASE HELP I MUST FIND THIS SONG!!!

Post by R E A » Sat Nov 18, 2006 9:53 pm

I am trying to fing out if Matt Monro sang a song which was either called
"Do it for me" or had those lyrics in the song. I have not heard the song myself but someone told me about it and I am trying to get a copy of the lyrics or better yet the song itself. The song is apparently about a man who has grown older and as he is watching children play he says "do it for me". In one part of the song a little boy is playing with a toy gun. He tells the boy to shoot him when he shoots his gun. Is anyone aware of the existence of this song? Thank you so much if you can help![/b]

Hi REA--the only song I can think of with lyrics anything like that is "This is all I ask" which has the line

Children every where when you shoot a bad man, shoot at me

Maybe this is the one you are serarching for.

Could be the wonderful WHEN YOU BECOME A MAN, perhaps? This is also about an older man looking back at his childhoodd

Yes John-you could be right--it contains a very similar line--

Shoot The bad man, bang he’s dead

Sounds like a very happy song (not)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

I wasn't meaning anything by it Marian, it just sounds a "rather unhappy" song

I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

 Thanks everyone for your replies. It's funny that I found the song right after I made my post. Well, it's quite a nice song actually and it IS the song "This Is All I Ask". Read the lyrics, I'm sure you'll like it. Thanks again, I'll be sure to check out the others.

This Is All I Ask

As I approach the prime of my life
I find I have the time of my life
Learning to enjoy at my leisure
All the simple pleasures
And so I happily concede
This is all I ask
And this is all I need

Beautiful girls, walk a little slower when you walk by me
Lingering sunsets, stay a little longer with a lonely sea
Children every where when you shoot a bad man, shoot at me
Take me to that strange enchanted land
Grown-ups seldom understand

Wandering rainbows
Leave a bit of colour for my heart to own
Stars in the sky, make my wish come true before the night has flown
And let the music play as long as there’s a song to sing
And then I will stay younger then spring

Not an "unhappy song" after all, in fact a brilliant song with an even more brilliant rendition by our Matt 8)
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

We think it takes a singing voice like Matt's to put any kind of life and spark into a song like this, other than that it's the shape of things to come

Hi Robert--I was just teasing you  I know what you meant.

To be quite honest, I did not know the second song-I just looked it up on the lyrics page.

But I do know "This is all I ask"--really well--beautiful song--great version by Matt---but lovely versions by Tony Bennett, and also Johnny Mathis.

Yes, Perry Como also sang it on one of his TV shows.
