We agree Edgar, Shirley is a "Superstar" and there are many other great voices and entertainers from "The Land Of Song," but who remembers the magnificent singer " David Hughes" ? who sadly passed away at the age of Forty Seven. He first began singing ballads then made the transition to Tenor.
His family, particularly his sister still strive to keep his name and fame remembered. We have all his recordings. If you want to hear some good music from the Big Band era, to the crooners, tune in on the internet to "A String Of Pearls " Radio Wales with Dewi Griffiths on Sunday mornings at 9.o'clock. :)

1.44 am. Don't you two ever sleep? Yes I remember David Hughes, a magnificent singer. My brother got to know him and has some photos of when he appeared in Cardiff in the '50's. Blimey, that dates me! And I have listened to the Radio Wales programme, in fact they have a lot of good programmes.

So Edgar, you haven't yet joined the bleary eyed set then :) (yawn Yawn ) We are also generally captured by our internet friends in the States who are Five hours and Eight hours behind us and talking on the messenger. It's a bad habit cos we do need a lot of beauty sleep now  but anyway Happy Valentines Day to Michele, Mickie, and family and to all Matt's fans wherever you may be in the world :) :)

Terence Shirley is a megastar, and although last night we thought that she chose her songs very carefully, and perhaps kept those top notes for her two final songs, which were spot on, she still injects thrilling emotion into every song. She has class and sophistication. She's unmatchable. :)
Also there was more singing than audience participation

Shirley's top notes

Post by TerenceLee » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:16 am

Hi Lena and Harry

Some friends were disappointed that she did not hit more high notes during the show. Some say she was drowned out by the too loud orchestra. Yet others say she has developed a new emotional edge to her voice rather than just plain belting. All agreed that she looks good at 70.

Hi Marian--I was a little undecided at first--it really sounded like her-and looked like her---from a distance ! Closer up, I was not so sure. On reflection, I would say it is not her. Although she would have had to give her permission, whatever way it was. I have never seen her do an advert before--but M & S is very high-profile.

Basically--I do not know

Hi Marian 1 and 2,

I read in the paper last week that Shirley is the new face behind the M&S adverts. She has apparently taken over from Twiggy!
Dame Shirley is a BIG M&S fan so maybe she will get a free dress or two out of this deal!
