MATT'S LOVE SONG POLL

Now that St Valentine's passion and early election fever
currently converge, may I suggest a poll to choose the most
popular love song recorded by Matt?
I propose that we use the one-person-one-vote, first-past-the post
voting system (no AV here). I volunteer to be the polling booth
tally clerk and I would welcome an election monitor to ensure
I don't mess up the count.
To set the ball rolling I hereby nominate I Get Along Without You Very Well.
I vote for this song because of its poetic lyric and Matt's mastery
of its technically demanding musicality.

Thanks for doing this Keith. I love these things and am thinking of doing one for the favourite forum MM single, but first I have to listen to TCSC and that will take me months! But eventually I'll get to it.

My favourite Matt Monro love song is definitely Till The End Of Time. I only like these "classical turned popular song" transformations when I forget what the original classical piece was, such as Larry Clinton Orchestra's My Reverie with that captivating vocal by Bea Wain.

I am sent to another world each time I listen to Till the End of Time, His ending is breathtaking. I have a close runner-up; maybe Eric Hall will nominate that, since the rules only allow us to post one.

The English version of 'When I Look into Your Eyes' on disc one of 'Matt at the Movies'. I searched for this track for 23 years and EMI kept telling me they only had the Spanish version and that dad had never done it in English - but I remembered hearing dad play it back in my youth. Of course, with Richard on board, it wasn't long before it was found. I know it was sung to a seal in Dr Doolittle but I just adore it.

It looks as though everyone has a different favourite,
however the exercise has prompted me to listen again,
more keenly, to Matt's love songs.
Marian(a) in the interests of simplicity the system is, one
voter one song.
I'm reminded that in Ireland anyone who tries to join in
when someone is singing without accompaniment is quickly
shushed and reminded of the stricture: one singer one song.
