Hi Paul--I had a feeling you might have guessed my one.

Your new one is not at all familiar-is it a Christmas song??

I consider it a Christmas song and only hear it at Christmastime. But it doesn't specifically mention Christmas. It was featured in a 1903 operetta.

Clearly I have stumped all of you. :)

Here's another clue. The song has a one word title.

Not quite stumped us Paul. This is not a Christmas song.
This is a Victor Herbert Operetta "Babes In Toyland"
The Song Is "Toyland"

Well, at least I stumped you for several days. :) In the US, we consider Toyland a Christmas song. It's in my Christmas music books, on Doris Day's Christmas album, and only heard at Christmas-time.

Time for you to submit another seasonal opening lyric.

I do know the song "Toyland"---JM has recorded it on a Christmas Album--and at this time of year he includes it in his live concerts--but I have never heard him sing the opening verse--I wish he had-I would have liked to hear it.

But not one of my fave Christmas songs by a long way--in fact, I do not like it much, and find it a little dreary!

Come on Lena and Harry we are waiting with baited breath for your question. Make it easy, though, like I always do.

Ok, try this one.

It was the night before Christmas
And everything was real quiet.
So i thought i'd take myself a little walk.
At Christmas Eve night.
I was making it on down the street.
When to my surprise.
I saw this little biddy cat
With big ole tears in his eyes.
Now I could see he was standing
In front of this music store
And looked real brought down
I could hear what he was saying.
He didn't know I was around.
Here say

It seems Marian finds many of my favourite songs "dreary", e.g., September Song, and now Toyland. Toyland has the most luscious chords and a lovely melody.

Even with clues, I wouldn't know Lena and Harry's lyric.
