Here's a clue it is sung by Johnny Preston.

I remember RUNNING BEAR by Johnny Preston, that's about all. To do with cats, I know he recorded one called Leave my Kitten Alone, but don't suppose this could be the one?

I think this is supposed to be a Christmas type song--I really do not have a clue on this one.

Well we have this song on a Christmas compilation and it's not one of those Christmas verses like the ones that we can generally recognise.
It's easy if you like or are familiar with Johnny Preston's stuff.
Paul has gone AWOL or he may have known it.
We can't think of any more Christmas verses anyway so we could call this one a day ??

I cannot think of any others. Paul said he would be missing for a while over the holiday period.

I know very little about Johnny Preston.

I'm back from AWOL -- but only for 30 minutes today and even less for rest of 2006.

Could this be A New Baby For Christmas?

I'm still not ready for the opening verse game to be over. I still have a couple of Christmas song opening verses to submit, so I hope I have the correct answer.

Hi Paul good to know you're back if only 30 mins.
No that is not the correct song, but let's say you're kind of way there with you're answer. it's something somebody want's.

The answer to the song is "I Want a Rock and Roll Guitar"

Well, I have to say Harry and Lena, I would never, ever have got that one---in fact I have never heard of it !!

I think Paul may be missing now for a while, so if anyone else has any more verses to enter---I know that I cannot think of any at the moment.

I'm not missing yet! :) I have about three Christmas opening verses for all of you to guess. Here's the first. I'm sure many of you (especially Jon) will know it. The other two (completely different style) will be perfect for Robert.

Behold! a virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with us

here is a nice christmas one, it isn't the first verse, though.
I HEAR THE CHILD TELLING SANTA WHAT TO BRING,
AND THE SMILE UPON HIS TINY FACE IS TO ME WORTH MORE THAN ANYTHING :)
