Hi Terence, what a super-star Judy Garland was, which reminds us of the 1938 film "Broadway Melody", when the young starry eyed Judy wrote a letter to one of the screens biggest heart throbs from that era, Clark Gable... those words and hauntiny tune to "You Made Me Love You."
Another song just made for Matt. :) :)

Hi again Lena and Harry and all. Did you mention the "Broadway Melody of 1938" Lena and Harry. Guess who was in THAT film too, yes you've guessed it the supremely gorgeous and magnificent tap dancer - Eleanor "Torrey" Powell, just in case you had forgotten her name. :D :D

I like that song "You Made Me Love You", and the scene you mentioned with Judy Garland writing and singing the song to Clark Gable, is a classic scene from the black and white Silver Screen.
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hi again everone---yes I can just hear Matt singing "You made me Love you" Also "Almost like Being in love" is a great choice---from Brigadoon also comes "The Heather on the Hill", another really good tune.

Terence, of course I remembered that film Title "Best Friends" as soon as I saw it--I bought the single from the film by James Ingram and Patti Austin.

I did actually know of the Dory Caymee connection with "Like A lover"--I have him singing this song as a duet with Maureen Mcgovern.

Pieces of Dreams is a fabulous song, I had it on a TV show video of Johnny Mathis, and he would hold one note for ever it seemed. In over 100 live concerts we have only heard him sing it once, and it was a true spine -tingling moment to hear those first few notes, and to know that we were in for a touch of magic. Truly unforgettable!

I will stay with Alan and Marilyn Bergman for the last time, and choose another 2 hauntingly beautiful songs---

"I was born in love with you"

"I was born in love with you, opened my eyes in love with you,
From another time and another Place,
From another world I remember your face"

and "Summer me, Winter me"

"Summer me, winter me
And with your kisses morning me, evening me
And as the world sleeps far away, star away
Forever me with love"

I cannot tell you how much I love those lyrics, and to hear Matt sing them would have been awesome!

Lena and Harry-if you do not know these beautiful and romantic words and music, just try checking some out. "How do you keep the Music Playing " by Johnny Mathis is a good one--also "The music never Ends" by Maureen Mcgovern. Barbra Streisand has also sung a lot of their songs.

However, I have to confess I do not know the song from "Godfather3".-I shall try and find it somewhere and give it a listen.

Love Theme From The Godfather Part 2

Post by Terence Lee » Mon May 29, 2006 5:29 am

The love theme from The Godfather Part 2 (Love Said Goodbye) was written in 1974 and it is perfect for the fabulous vocals of Matt Monro. The only version I have is by Catherina Valente on vinyl. The lyrics are so beautiful that just by reading them, you know what a beautiful melody the song will have.

"How cold the wind that whispers you are gone
How sad the rain that cries your name at dawn
Where is the laughter that we once knew?
Had I but reached, would I still have you?"

Hi Marian, Terence and all. Great choices of music, and we will check those two songs out Marian. Also you may like to check out Russell Davies's interesting show on BBC Radio 2 yesterday. Co-incidentally it featured Alan and Marilyn Bergman, and they gave Johnny Mercer as their favourite lyricist, not a bad choice either in our opinion. You can hear the programme on the playback feature for the next seven days.
Terence all the music from "The Godfather" is superb and Marian "To Each His own" is sung beautifully by Al Martino in The Godfather 111. :) :)

Hi all-I shall certainly give that show a listen in the next day or two-
It may help me forget about this gloomy weather--another rainy Bank Holiday--the only things keeping me sane at the moment are my Music, My Computer, and my 2 Puppies!! Funnily enough, my computer and my puppies are the things that sometimes drive me crackers!!!

Hi all--hooray---the weather is better-some sunshine at last and warmer--just hope it lasts this time.

I have thought of another golden oldie that would have been perfect for Matt to sing-

"The Folks who live on the Hill"

Hello Mariana44 and everyone. What a wonderful choice of song Mariana44. I have the a few version's of "The Folk's Who Live on The Hill". An excellent version of that particular song I have, is sung by Michael Holliday. But I think EVERYONE would agree that the absolute definitive version of the song is sung gloriously by PEGGY LEE. The orchestra was conducted by none other than Frank Sinatra on Peggy Lee's version, which is sheer heaven to listen too.
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hi , Robert and Marian and all , yes Robert "The Folks Who Live On The Hill" is always associated with Peggy Lee, but several singers recorded that song, words and music by Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern., and as you've said a nice version by Michael Holiday who was known as the UKs Bing Crosby. Bing recorded it himself. We like Bette Midlers version too.
Here are two upbeat numbers, we can just hear Matt singing these " All Of Me" and !Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart"

Hi all--glad you liked the choice of "Folks who live on the hill"--one of my favourite versions is by Mel Torme, who never seems to get mentiond on these pages.

I love "Zing went the Strings of my heart"--that would definately have suited Matt down to the ground.

Another similar upbeat song that we all know---

"You make me feel so young"

Hi everyone (and Marian who replied to a posting I placed about 'Nature Boy' in another forum!)

I would just like to add Nature Boy to this link! I think it would of suited Matt perfectly.

Sorry for interupting! :)

Hi Gray, Nat King Cole's recording of Nature Boy is generally everyones favourite, and this was certainly one that was made for Matt. Nature Boy was recorded by several others, Frank Sinatra, dick Haymes, Harry Connick jnr, Sarah Vaughan, Celine Dion, and probably a few more, but who remembers Red Ingle's version. ?? with the title "Serutan Yob" a parody that he recorded with the Natural Seven.

Hi to everyone---Nature Boy was also recorded by Johnny Mathis on the "Unforgettable" Nat king Cole Album. Another good song choice. But I certainly have not heard the "Serutan Yob"!!

Matt has sung some really super songs from musicals--"I have dreamed" and "Hello Young Lovers" are way up in my top 10.

But here are another 2 musical songs that are so suited to Matt that I could almost believe I had heard him sing them --

"Younger than Springtime"

"We Kiss in a Shadow"

My favourite recording of Nature Boy is by jazz singer Helen Merrill. She recorded it for her Christmas album about 10 years ago. I highly recommend this album. Christmas wouldn't seem the same without playing it several times. She does several familiar carols and popular songs in her unique style. Particularly lovely are Coventry Carol and Snowfall. It may be hard to find, because it was issued on an independent label.
