L&H, you especially Lena, I hope will like this:
SHOW SONG SPLENDOUR
Have you dreamed of enjoying, from your best-in-house seat,
the definitive, declarative Lun Tha performance
of anticipated love, from the King & I?
Are you a determined Dorothy clinging to the hope
of someday flying, like little bluebirds,
to the happy land you heard of in a lullaby?
Maybe you've grown accustomed to the face
that enriches your life, at the price of your independence,
simply by being about the place.
You may wish to commiserate with 'star-cross'd lovers'
Tony and Maria who dream of escaping
their Romeo and Juliet-strain pain,
or congratulate Don lockwood on celebrating
his new-found, worry-free status
by doing a defiant song and dance act in the pouring rain.
You may have a taste for epic adventure,
perhaps the tale of a one-man impossible mission
to grapple unto death, in the noblest of causes,
with the ilk of the Spanish Inquisition.
(Or purr in remembrance of Old Possum's poetry.)
You may have waited to escort, to an occasional
high class Ball, a cool sophisticated lady
and then declared: 'You're sensational!'
Lastly let Lachesis convince you
that when you wish upon a star, Walt Disney style,
your dream really could come true.
Should you wish to be transported
to these intuitively interpreted theatrical whimsies,
each sojourn capable of stealing the show,
then climb aboard the musical magic carpet
of the matchlessly mellifluous Mr Matt Monro.
