Thanks Lena & Harry, your endorsement means a lot.
I think the Queen played a blinder away in Ireland.
Follow that, Mr President and I hope you'll find your
missing family name apostrophe.
L&H, Matt Junior should take some of the credit
for Hero Worship.

L&H, you especially Lena, I hope will like this:

SHOW SONG SPLENDOUR

Have you dreamed of enjoying, from your best-in-house seat,
the definitive, declarative Lun Tha performance
of anticipated love, from the King & I?
Are you a determined Dorothy clinging to the hope
of someday flying, like little bluebirds,
to the happy land you heard of in a lullaby?
Maybe you've grown accustomed to the face
that enriches your life, at the price of your independence,
simply by being about the place.
You may wish to commiserate with 'star-cross'd lovers'
Tony and Maria who dream of escaping
their Romeo and Juliet-strain pain,
or congratulate Don lockwood on celebrating
his new-found, worry-free status
by doing a defiant song and dance act in the pouring rain.
You may have a taste for epic adventure,
perhaps the tale of a one-man impossible mission
to grapple unto death, in the noblest of causes,
with the ilk of the Spanish Inquisition.
(Or purr in remembrance of Old Possum's poetry.)
You may have waited to escort, to an occasional
high class Ball, a cool sophisticated lady
and then declared: 'You're sensational!'
Lastly let Lachesis convince you
that when you wish upon a star, Walt Disney style,
your dream really could come true.

Should you wish to be transported
to these intuitively interpreted theatrical whimsies,
each sojourn capable of stealing the show,
then climb aboard the musical magic carpet
of the matchlessly mellifluous Mr Matt Monro.

Keith-I do not know about anyone else--but I loved it.

Very cleverly put together---it seems too good to be hidden on our Forum !!

Marian, i think it was meant to represent the songs that Matt has sung from the musicals--and he has not sung any from "Les misrables "

Thanks for all of your kind comments on Show Songs Splendour.
I was a labour of love to flick through the pages of the Matt Monro
songbook, and a privilege to end up with a pleasing paean to Matt's
sublime show songs oeuvre.
Of course I'm biased, but in my opinion no other singer comes
close to Matt's mastery of the genre.
Lena, I know I Have Dreamed is a particular favourite of yours;
and Mariana, I think this forum is the poem's natural home, but
maybe Michele will offer it to Geraldine for her fanzine. However,
should anyone know of a wider publication music magazine that
might include it, please let me know.
I'm not bothered about self-aggrandisement; but I am very keen
to remind music lovers of Matt Monro's style-steeped, bell-clear,
sincere baritone.
Keith

At last the heavens have opened their hearts
to the parched south-east of England:

REBIRTH

Hard on the trails of the drought,
the welcome all-night rain
has made our garden SPROUT
miraculously again ...

How is it, that no matter how little rain we have, the weeds continue to grow--in fact they seem to thrive on no rain.

Well, mine do.
