Blue Moon

Post by Terence Lee » Fri Aug 04, 2006 12:44 pm

Has anyone heard Liza Minnelli's wacky version of Blue Moon recorded during her Capitol tenure? It is so offbeat that Capitol removed it from her first album LIZA LIZA when they reissued it as an abridged album years later with a new title MAYBE THIS TIME.

Lena & Harry are indeed thinking of the version I used as a source, and which I expected Marian to get instantly.....

Rod Stewart - Stardust (The Great American Songbook Vol 3).

Incidentally music lovers, the humongously wonderful Eric Clapton accompanies Rod on this great rendition :)

Hi all---that is so strange--yes I do love the Rod Stewart albums [songbook], but I put together a compilation of my favourites [via ITunes---naturally]--and that is what I usually listen to---and "Blue Moon " was not among those---but I really should have been able to guess with all the clues you gave me !!

Everyone's recording the Great American Songbook. Just tried Gladys Knight's latest CD. Unfortunately I thought she brought nothing fresh or new to this genre.

Michael Bolton also sings Sinatra on his latest CD. Have not listened to it yet.

Hi all-as we have not had a verse to guess for a few days, and as I happen to be on the forum, and I just happen to have one ready---here goes---

"Many men with lofty aims,
Strive for lofty goals,
Others play at smaller games,
Being simpler souls.

I am of the latter brand;
All I want to do,
Is to find a spot of land,
And live there with you."

I just love some of these intros---they are like another little song, with a different tune, that leads into the main words and melody.

This is such a well known song--a real golden goodie :!: :!:

That'll be The Folks Who Live on the Hill

Great version by Peggy Lee who almost whispers the lyrics.

Yes Peggy Lee is always associated with "The Folk Who Live On The Hill" and yes Terence, singing in a kind of whisper, but again without the verse.
Bette Midler sang this numer superbly and so did Sammy Davis Jnr, both with verse included.
Hi Terra your go :?:

Hi There are loads of great versions of this song, but my favourite version is by Mel Torme--just beautiful. And he also includes the verse.

Hello everyone. As I have mentioned before, Frank Sinatra was the conductor for Peggy Lees' outstanding version of "The Folks Who Live On The Hill". Another very good version of the song is by Michael Holliday.
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

My favourite recording of The Folks Who Live On The Hill is by Jon Hendricks.

Here's an opening verse that even Robert will remember:

To lead a better life,
I need my love to be here

Hi Paul, We are certain that this is the Beatles number
" Here There And Everywhere".

Here is another.......
Nothing seemed To Matter Any More
Didn't care what I Was headed for.
Time Was Standing Still
No One Counted Till.
There Came A Knocking At The Door.

Welcome back Paul, and yes I did know your verse.
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(
